Research student

What is a research student?

Students wishing to study a specific subject, at the graduate level, may be admitted as research students (“kenkyuusei”). Research students are not entitled to degrees upon completion of his/her research work. Applicants wishing to enter our International Doctoral Program in Dental Science but does not fulfill the number of years required to apply may consider joining us as a research student first, and then prepare for the entrance examination of our Doctoral program.

Half a year or one year depending on your enrollment month

Either in October or April

Pre-Application method

1. Look for a “Kyushu University faculty member whom you would want as your supervisor.” You may start with the tables below to find out more about the research areas available and the names of the researchers who could serve as your supervisor.

2. Get in contact with your potential supervisor with the support from the Kyushu University Admissions Support Desk.

3. Discuss with your potential supervisor when you would like to enroll as a research student.

Note: Please note that it may take about 3 weeks for the Support Desk to inform you whether the researcher you have designated as your potential supervisor is available for contact. So please make sure that you make a formal request to the Support Desk well in advance.

Actual Application

4. Once you have obtained provisional acceptance from your supervisor please make sure you apply within the specified deadlines. You cannot apply unless you have already gained acceptance from our professors.

• Please note that documents submitted at the time of application will not be returned.
• If you wish to enroll as an audit student please contact our student affairs office directly.
• Please note that the enrollment, tuition and examination fees are estimates and are subjected to change. If the fees are revised during your application period, the new fees will apply at the point of revision.
