Research field introduction

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

In our section, all staffs are highly ambitious and collaborative in the clinical, educational and research efforts. In the clinical practice, congenital oral abnormalities mainly cleft lip and palate, jaw deformities, oral cancer, oral and maxillofacial reconstruction using dental implants and biomaterials, and surgical treatment such as maxillofacial trauma, diseases of temporomandibular joint. We make an effort to provide the medical care that meets modern medical needs, and we are conducting translational research to develop new treatments and materials. The simulators and navigators for oral and maxillofacial surgery are in the practical stage. These efforts represent our style for new treatments and examination / evaluation methods.
In the education, we aim to develop next-generation leaders who can think for themselves and solve problems as training to answer clinical questions and demands.
In the research, we are pursuing themes that contribute to the society as a clinical section, and we promote research rich in variety. In our section, we are working every day to innovate in dentistry. We welcome young doctors and students with new ideas and flexible thinking.

Message to students

In the field of various surgery, endoscopic surgery and robotic surgery are being developed one after another, and innovations are occurring. Oral and maxillofacial surgery follows the trend of dental treatment which requires delicate procedures, but new techniques to help the surgeon are not sufficient, yet. On the other hand, oral and maxillofacial surgery has a strong relationship with the whole body. It is directly required to evaluate the oral cavity from the whole body, and to maintain and improve the health of the whole body from the oral cavity. Nowadays, we are socially required to contribute to the health of the whole body as specialist. By all means, I hope that you will become a human resource who can study oral and maxillofacial surgery, take a bird’s-eye view of the whole body, and bring about new innovations in the dentistry.
