Research field introduction

Oral and Maxillofacial Oncology

Our department specializes in clinical care, research, and education regarding benign and malignant neoplasms and oral mucosal diseases. In close synergy with the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, we manage a high-volume clinical practice covering jaw deformities, cleft lip and palate, inflammatory diseases, maxillofacial trauma, and temporomandibular joint disorders. Serving as a premier referral center for patients with refractory oral diseases from Fukuoka and the wider Kyushu region, our department provides the most advanced surgical interventions through our dedicated subspecialists.

Message to students

Our department is deeply committed to the mentorship and cultivation of the next generation of oral surgeons. We draw inspiration from the wisdom of Tokugawa Ieyasu, who remarked, ‘No treasure surpasses the value of human talent’—a sentiment emphasizing that people are our most quintessential asset. We believe that the sustainable operation and vitality of any institution depend entirely on its members; it is only through the growth of individuals that the department truly flourishes. True to Kyushu University’s mission of producing exceptional researchers and clinicians, we place paramount importance on nurturing these ‘human treasures’ and fostering an environment conducive to their development. While honoring our esteemed traditions, we remain agile in responding to the evolving demands of the era, striving to further advance our department as a modern center of excellence in oral surgery.
